Riccardo Cotarella is one of the best known and most respected winemakers in Italy. He is a consultant to a long list of Italian and international wine producers, is Chairman of Assoenologi (a trade body representing Italian wine producers), having been first elected in 2013 and reconfirmed in 2016, Chairman of the Union Internationale des Oenologues, and formerly chaired the Wine Committee at Expo Milano 2015. Together with his brother, Renzo, he is the owner of the Falesco estate, located in the province of Terni. He is the founder of the WRT (Wine Research Team), set up in 2012 with the aim of combining excellence in production and applied research with a major drive to achieve environmental, viticultural and economic sustainability, involving 28 Italian wine producers. He teaches Viticulture and Oenology at Viterbo’s Tuscia University, where he has also been awarded an Honorary Degree in Agriculture in recognition of “his contribution to technical and scientific progress in the areas of viticulture and oenology”. Riccardo Cotarella is also an aggregate professor at the Accademia dei Georgofili.
